The Good Energy Festival 2010 in Santa Monica, California
by Loraine Alkire for YahooNews!

The Good Energy Festival in Santa Monica, California was bustling with people as early as 9 a.m. over the weekend. My mission: find out why people were at the festival. My questions were simple. What changes do we need in government and what can government do to help California?  READ MORE...

It's Blog Action Day- Last Day to Register-Bloggers Pony up, Please

La hip chic adores the world and we do mean all the people and creatures that abide in it. Each human, each creature, each  firmament large or small, and all the water that separates them, deserve our respect. That's why we need blogactionday.change.org and bloggers everywhere to blog on change today.Last weekend, I attended the Good Energy Festival in Santa Monica; each booth represented ideas and things for change to make this a better ‘more sustainable’ world for our future.

I went away feeling as though maybe 'we' the collective 'we' of our earth, can change things, through awareness, through activation and vision.
I felt truly blessed to have been a part of the scene; to have met so many people with so many worthy causes; people of action. Just as Love is a verb- so Change is.
Whether that means giving your spare change to a cause or digging down deeper in your very soul to decide to physically clean up a marshland or save a whale or feed a child, any sacrifice (while singing to yourself ‘It’s no Sacrifice at All’) that you can make on the part of humanity and the earth and all of its creatures (for we have dominion over them-we are the most intelligent of all species- at least we think so), La Hip Chic asks you now- add a verb to your definition of love and change and do something, today.

"We have met the enemy and he is us!" Pogo

Day after day, day after day, We stuck, nor breath nor motion; As idle as a painted ship Upon a painted ocean. Water, water, everywhere, And all the boards did shrink; Water, water, everywhere,  Nor any drop to drink. excerpt-Famous Poem: The Rime of the Ancient Mariner - Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Micro-Graffiti at it's Best! Child's Converse Style Tennis Shoe Adorned

All la hip chic can say is wow! awww- isn't that cute!  Micro-graffiti is sure to grow ever more popular with designs such at this!
What Dersk has to say "So I have been working with a space no bigger than 1 by 2 inches, on watercolor paper, and using acrylics. This idea grew from working on larger scale images and I thought to myself it would be nice to travel a different road and push for something alot smaller. So far it has been fun exploring such a confined space. It has made me think a little different about my process, both as a writer, and a painter." We think you're moving in the right direction Dersk!
Check out http://derskone.wordpress.com/, and see his great micro-art on fake fingernails. Right now Dersk is willing to do custom work- so you can contact him and see what happens. We believe his original works will only increase value over time.

Sunday Reflections- the Want that Taunts

written by Loraine Alkire

The 'Horchow' Seat of Heaven
Heaven as we have heard it to be-Isaiah 11:6,7:
The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.
The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.Credit: William Strutt Peace Circa 1896 Etching

Yesterday, for reasons to be explained in another article, I found myself at 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Calif- during the 'Good Energy Festival', aptly named for the booths filled with eco friendly wares and wears.  But on either side of this Festival were stores and restaurants, and the 'wants' immediately came to mind. I dared not step inside them. Knowing I could neither afford to buy or dream of expensive things like jeans that cost $240.00 a pair. I soothed myself- by saying to me "You know what $240.00 dollars could buy?  Read more...

Photo of the Week- Remants of Summer 2010

[Publishers note: Loraine Alkire]
'Photo of the Week' will be an ongoing project from some of the best photographers in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. These photos will represent life, lifestyle and people that can only be found here in our beautiful Southern part of California. It is my hope that you will be inspired by them as much as I am.

This weeks photo comes from Sara Ching Leonard of Off We Go Travel. Sara has been taking amazing pictures from all over the world and and down under the sea for decades. She has a true eye for imagery that strikes the very core of the moment.

Sara Leonard's comments on the photo-These lifeguard stations were covered with beautiful artwork only for this summer.I believe they might be coming down this Oct. They are only in the Los Angeles county beaches from Zuma to Long Beach. OC doen't have them. They are not actually painted. Panels have been painted and screwed onto the lifeguard walls themselves. The only thing they painted are the rails which are going back to the blue color once the panels come down. What a shame! I love the artwork and every station is different.

Spaghetti Tacos and a Spanish Lesson Combined?

La Hip Chic adores all things fusion!  The jury is out on this recipe however. We like this video because the Spanish is at our level (we still have trouble conjugating verbs) and we just happen to think fake mustaches are funny. So Kudos on the fake mustaches!  We just aren't sure this is the way La Hip Chic would make a spaghetti taco. We think, it should be done with  spaghetti carbonara in a rich cream sauce that has been ever so slightly refried and put into homemade taco shells that are just on the soft side of hard; topped with fresh tomatoes, plenty of fresh basil,  and nice helping of  freshly shaved pecorino romano on top. Then, and only then, we would consider eating it. Calorie count 2000 at least per serving.
Tell us what you think of our recipe idea and what you think of the Video in general- We give it an a for creativity and a C for execusion.
